Euskadi accumulated 20 consecutive months of increase in inputs and tourist nights
confirms the upward trend in recent months to be the territory of Álava, where there is a greater increase in tourist arrivals with 10% followed by Gipuzkoa with 8%. Meanwhile
of visitors at Vizcaya declined 3%. The first months
continue throwing the 2011 positive data for the Basque tourism as published by the Basque Institute of Statistics, Eustat. This trend coincides with the strategies led by the Basque Government and the various campaigns launched by the Department of Industry, Innovation, Trade and Tourism.
If an analysis of the data, we found that besides the increase of tourist arrivals in the whole of Euskadi, overnight stays increased by 5%.
By provinces, Álava experienced the highest growth in tourist arrivals with a +10%, followed by Gipuzkoa with +8%. For its part, Vizcaya suffers a decline of -3%. In terms of overnight stays, Álava stands again as the fastest growing area with a +26% +15% Guipúzcoa reached while in Vizcaya an 8% decrease.
As for the capital, Vitoria-Gasteiz is still recording, as in previous months, a dramatic increase with a +21% on inputs and +40% in overnight stays. For its part, Donostia-San Sebastián grew +2% at the entrances and +5% in overnight stays. Finally Bilbao lost -1% in the arrival of passengers and -5% in overnight stays.
The Basque Government is working to consolidate Euskadi as a tourist destination reference and quality, and supporting the tourism sector multiple initiatives to improve the competitiveness of the same.
