TourespaƱa Basquetour and double the investment in tourism Euskadi

  • The amount spent on promoting the sector is 1.2 million

The Secretariat General of Domestic Trade and Tourism and the Basque Government have signed an agreement to continue carrying out marketing activities to promote Euskadi as tourist destination. The amount earmarked for the development of these shares amounted to 1.2 billion euros, 50% contributed by each of the parties. This doubles the amount invested last year, 600,000 euros, when it signed the first joint promotion agreement between the two organizations.

The agreement was signed the General Secretary of Tourism and Domestic Trade, Joan Mesquida, and the Deputy Minister Trade and Tourism, Pilar Zorrilla. The ceremony also attended by Director of Tourism, Isabel Muela, and the director of Basquetour, Ana Izaguirre. Mesquida said that "cooperation is the best way to strengthen tourism as an economic engine" and recognized "strategic commitment" of the Basque Government for tourism, "the same stuff as the English government."

The previous agreement included various promotional and marketing in France, Britain and Germany. This time, join two other places in what is intended to improve the positioning of destinations and products in the Basque Country: Italy and the United States. The main recipients of these activities are travel agents and tour operators, media and end users.

One of the pillars that will guide these actions will be food, since over 10% of domestic tourists who visit Euskadi do so motivated by food. "We have to grow even more in sectors which are an alternative to the image of sun and beaches that Spain has," said Mesquida.
